AMTIL promotes the interests of Australia’s advanced manufacturing industry, including through strategic advocacy, to amplify the sector’s impact and relevance.

These ten principles have been developed as a clear and transparent guide to how policy proposals are assessed, and advocacy priorities and positions are determined on behalf of members and the sector.

Our activities are also guided by the organisation’s purpose, strategic plan, and values, and are developed in the best interests of the advanced manufacturing sector to deliver sustainable, long-term benefits.

  1. Advancing Australian manufacturing capability and related technology, we engage respectfully on the national and state policies that strengthen Australia’s high-quality advanced manufacturing sector and related technology, increases its capability, and improves domestic competitiveness within the global context.
  2. AMTIL will be non-partisan at all times and work with all elected or appointed government representatives. AMTIL will not takes sides in the politics of a policy position. This does not preclude AMTIL from congratulating a government on a specific position, appointment and/or supporting a specific policy position.
  3. Representing ‘heartland’ membership, our focus will have a preference for precision manufacturing and the related technology and technological uptake.
  4. Advocate not lobbyist; Championing collective advocacy where there is broad interest and impact, rather than individual companies or niche interests, we represent the interests of our membership and the sector. Our role is to inform and support policy outcomes that strengthen advanced manufacturing capability and economic prosperity, rather than to promote narrow commercial or individual interests. We will not be eligible (or seek to be eligible) for the lobbyist register.
  5. Priorities will be guided by a combination of member value, potential impact, and organisational capacity to ensure AMTIL remains an effective and influential voice for the sector.
  6. Technology adoption supporters; The face of our nation’s manufacturing has fundamentally changed over the past decade and AMTIL is proactively supportive of technology uptake.
  7. Your trusted voice; As a constructive policy leadership partner, AMTIL contributes credible expertise, actionable recommendations, and achievable policy reforms.
  8. Evidence-based advocacy; Decisions are grounded in industry data and research, member experience, market realities, and robust economic analysis.
  9. Prosperous and sustainable companies; AMTIL supports a competitive and resilient manufacturing sector, including through policies that improve productivity, reduced workforce barriers, and access to skills, visas, and skilled immigration.
  10. Commonwealth and state governments: AMTIL will work at both state and federal levels on chosen policy positions. We may address state-based issues reactively if member or sector impact is significant, strategic opportunities exist, or outcomes may influence policy beyond a single jurisdiction.

The principles will work as our compass. AMTIL’s new Policy Council will work as its navigators; expressions of interest are currently open. Read more here.
