An exciting new chapter in AMTIL’s strategic evolution, a Policy & Government Affairs Branch has been launched to raise the voice of the advanced manufacturing industry under the leadership of Director Karen Parr. AMTIL is pleased to announce the establishment of a dedicated Policy & Government Affairs Branch. This new function reflects a significant investment in establishing and strengthening the voice of Australia’s advanced manufacturing sector, and increasing engagement with governments on the issues that matter most to industry. Leading the new branch is Karen Parr, who has been appointed as AMTIL’s Director, Policy & Government Affairs. With almost 20 years’ experience in policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement, Parr will lead AMTIL’s policy agenda, and will work closely with members, government and industry to champion manufacturing priorities. As the sector navigates economic, technological and workforce challenges, this new branch reinforces AMTIL’s long-term commitment to ensuring that members have a stronger voice in shaping the future of Australian manufacturing and related technology. How can technology improve productivity, now and into the future? AMTIL is calling on its members for examples and case studies where technology adoption has supported productivity improvements, as well as evidence on opportunities for where it will help into the future, as it develops its response to the Australian Government’s House Economics Committee Inquiry into The use of technology to assist in improving productivity that is chaired by the Hon. Ed Husic MP. Australia embraces innovation adoption, but wrestles with but a lack of productivity growth. Recognising that there is no ‘silver bullet’ to bring productivity growth back to its historic average, a range of reform levers will need to be pulled by government and industry to support its growth. This Inquiry seeks to understand what “skills, investment and policy settings are needed to develop and translate technological advances into higher productivity, stronger economic growth and improved living standards”. Importantly, this inquiry is not simply about adopting new technologies, but ensuring Australia sees the economic and productive benefits from them.
