Expression of Interest are sought for a technical expert to sit on the Standards Australia Machine Safety Committee, representing AMTIL and the greater interests of the machine-using community and not a particular commercial interest.
The nominee should be conversant with the issues regarding safety related control systems and guarding and have some working knowledge of the OH&S regulations regarding plant. It would be helpful if they have had some exposure to the standards already. Typically, an electrical, mechatronics or mechanical engineer would be ideal, but not essential.
Some technical knowledge of machines and risk assessment of machines would be very useful. The time commitment is not great, reading the occasional standard, commenting on international standards the committee may be considering adopting, voting on standards, and attending a meeting once every 3 months. The committee is ‘well stocked’ with knowledgeable people, however there are none in the machine tool industry.
