Workplace Relations Laws – A review of the basics
Presented by Rigby Cooke Lawyers
Thursday 17 August 2023
There have been significant developments in legislation and case law in recent times affecting workplace relations. This half day seminar will cover the underpinning laws and principles with which all HR advisers and managers should be familiar. We will provide a simple and practical explanation of the essentials that you need to know in each of these areas:
- Minimum employment conditions under the Fair Work Act (FW Act) – the National Employment Standards (NES)
- Understanding when awards apply (including to salaried staff) and key terms
- Key rights/obligations in employment contracts
- The difference between an employee and a contractor/consultant, including ‘sham contracting’
- Legal issues when ending employment, including unfair dismissal and general protections claims
- Bullying and sexual harassment claims under the FW Act
You will leave this seminar with a clear knowledge of key employment law principles and a practical understanding of their application so that you can manage people issues more effectively and identify and minimise risk to your organisation.
Who should attend?
This seminar is designed for HR advisers and line managers who are seeking to develop their workplace relations skills and knowledge, as well as more experienced HR managers who would like a refresher on the basics under current workplace relations laws.
