Bosch Australia – Modern Manufacturing Planning Tools in our Modern Manufacturing World

Location : Future Solutions Speaker Sessions Stage

Speaker: David Taylor, Consultant at BAMS

Manufacturers have always been under pressure. Time pressures. Resource pressures. Cost pressures. Today, those pressures can often be Global in nature. While our modern world offers an incredible range of new technology aimed at manufacturers, finding time and skills to plan out which technology is applicable seems increasingly difficult. Manufacturing departments wear many hats. Keep production going. Resolve OH&S challenges. Solve shortages. Fix quality spills. Work on new products. And, more importantly, save money while you are doing all of that. Planning tools have come a long way. Simulation is a key part of that. These tools give manufacturers more insight than ever before. Identify, plan, optimize and seek approval for manufacturing projects. The power of these modern tools is obvious. A large investment in plant or equipment is never a decision taken lightly, and so building confidence is essential in leading to such key decisions. We all seek the confidence good planning can provide. But we are under pressure. Time. Resource. Cost. In this talk we will explore how some manufacturers try to break the cycle and utilize modern planning tools.

ANCA – Can Industry 4.0 build Australia’s sovereign capability?

Location: Future Solutions Speaker Sessions Stage

Speaker: Lucas Hale, Global Marketing Manager ANCA

The fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is rapidly transforming the manufacturing landscape globally and presents an opportunity to revive Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capabilities.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of resilience and self-reliance in global supply chains and led to a renewed focus on rebuilding Australia’s sovereign capabilities.

While many traditional manufacturing jobs are unlikely to return to our shores, Industry 4.0 presents new opportunities to revive Australia’s manufacturing sector.

At the heart of Industry 4.0 is smart automation, which utilises advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to automate and optimise production processes, improving cost competitiveness, productivity, and quality.

Automating manufacturing is not about replacing people but transforming the existing workforce to perform more critical and complex tasks, while simultaneously helping contribute to wage growth and addressing the growing skills shortage.

Industry 4.0 can help Australia build its sovereign capability, enhance its resilience to future crises, and create new opportunities for economic growth and job creation.

However, if Australia is capitalise on the opportunity presented by Industry 4.0, it will require a concerted effort by government, industry, and academia to invest in infrastructure, skills, and innovation.
