This client is trying to “on-shore” the manufacture of a significant shaft. AMTIL cannot send you a drawing as yet as a supplier agreement would need to be obtained prior to releasing engineering details. In very rough terms some of the main characteristics of this shaft are:

  • Drawing and tolerances are imperial
  • Material 4340
  • Permanent corrosion coating to specific areas
  • Length of shaft 85 inches (2.1 metres)
  • Major diameter approximately 17 inches (435 mm)
  • Two splines
    • One located at end of shaft,
      • involute spline PD 15.6667 inches
      • 47 teeth
      • DP 3 / 6
    • One located mid shaft
      • involute spline PD 16.6667 inches
      • 50 teeth
      • DP 3 / 6
    • Several holes drilled and tapped in the ends of the shaft ranging from ¾ UNC to 1 ½ UNC
    • Raw billet weight approximately 2.5 tonne
